Any champion will attest to the fact that maintaining one’s position at the top is even more challenging than climbing to that much sought-after pinnacle of excellence. Eunice’s 2016 Matric results have not only ensured that Eunice maintain her position as Top School, they have also proven that Eunice tenaciously strives for constant improvement.
Apart from the 100% pass and 97% Bachelor’s pass rate, the school garnered the award for being Free State’s Top Maths and Physical Science school for the 13th time in 17 years, and Free State’s Top Achiever in no less than ten subjects, including: Afrikaans (First Additional Language), Accounting, Computer Applications Technology, Consumer Studies, Design, Engineering Graphics and Design, English (Home Language), Life Sciences, Mathematics and Visual Art. Ten learners achieved recognition for being amongst Free State’s top 100 learners; six learners attained the outstanding achievement of eight distinctions and 53 learners attained four or more distinctions.
These results were unquestionably the crowning glory of a year characterized by academic, sporting and cultural excellence. How apt, therefore, that the “CROWN” be chosen as the symbol for Eunice’s 2017 theme: “CONQUER SHE SHALL”. The theme itself speaks of courage, determination and success. It promises excellence that goes from strength to strength, reaffirming the promise echoed in the words of her school song: “Oh! May she grow and prosper from year to changing year”.
Eunice was awarded the Top Performing Public School in South African Award at the 2016 Education Excellence Awards Ceremony held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria on 1 April.
Mrs Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education, honoured the school for its sustained excellence and 100% Bachelor’s pass rate in 2015.
Upholding the Eunice tradition of attaining a 100% pass rate for the 30th consecutive year and achieving a class average of 73%, celebrates the input of a dedicated team of educators, who commit themselves unconditionally to their learners’ academic development.
The consistency of outstanding Matric results over the years attests to the fact that a goal-driven vision in the pursuit of one’s dreams, is key in the attainment of all-round excellence.
Eunice educators are highly experienced and envision only the best for their learners. In sharing an exceptional, collective work ethic and striving to develop world class teaching practices in their classrooms, they guide Eunice’s learners to stay focused in their individual aspirations.
Eunice learners do what the best schools world-wide strive for: they take up the challenge to realize their potential in the exemplary fashion that well-rounded, mature, young leaders do.
Eunice has once again been named as one of South Africa’s Top 25 Schools in the Country

Eunice has been selected as a Circle of Excellence School for 2016. An honour bestowed upon the school for the past 14 consecutive years.

The Foundation offers high school scholarships to learners who demonstrate the potential to excel academically, and who have the desire to fully engage in available opportunities. Scholarship recipients, known as Allan Gray Scholars, receive funding for high school tuition. It is the Scholarship’s vision to develop a community of young entrepreneurially minded leaders so that Scholars will become Candidate Fellows or gain access to university.
The Scholarship was created to broaden the pool of Fellowship applications from those who are able to demonstrate financial need in Southern Africa. The Scholarship focuses on the development of intellectual imagination, encouragement of personal initiative, infusion of spirit of significance, courageous commitment and pursuit of excellence.

Eunice is the only Free State school that is part of the The Epoch and Optima Trusts Maths Challenge. We are proud to be a partner in the furtherance of excellence in Mathematics Education.
The goal of the project is to have more learners matriculating with Maths skills which allow access to tertiary institutions. Their Maths Challenge aims to increase the number of learners taking Maths as well as to improve the quality of Maths passes, i.e. levels 5, 6 and 7. The Trusts support innovation in Maths teaching and learning.
Eunice has different programmes in place to address the needs of Maths learners who strive for continued success and at the same time meet the demands of the Trusts.
Anglo chief Executive Cynthia Carroll explains that “while more children have educational opportunities than was once the case, the country’s poor Maths and Science results may be the single most constraining factor on long term growth prospects”. Anglo’s approach seeks to reward educational centres of excellence that produce quality and can increase access and participation in Mathematics.
